Regional Athletics success for the girls

Yesterday 25 students from the Priory Academy LSST journeyed to Wakefield for the Regional Final of the track and field athletics cup.  We took two teams, junior girls (year 7 and 8) and intermediate girls (year 9 and 10) to compete in the competition, having secured their places at the County competition last month.

The standard of athletes is much higher at the regional level and all the girls were nervous ahead of their events.  We had amazing day, the performances from our students were absolutely outstanding.  Personal bests were being set and broken by almost every student on our teams and wins were being reported from every area of the track.

Your performance in this event is not measured on your position in the race, but how fast or far you competed.  You get a certain amount of points for your performance and these go towards our teams total.  The results of these can be seen below.

The junior girls, a team mainly made of year 7 students, performed excellently.  The most amazing relay race ever witnessed was won by the girls by a distance of at least 50m!  Stand out performances this time go to Charlotte Ripley, who jumped 4.62m in the long jump.  This is amazing for a year 7!  And Rebecca Adams, who represented the academy for the first time and won her 100m race and came 2nd in her high jump!  Well done girls!  The junior girls team finished an impressive 4th of 7.

The intermediate girls finished..... 1st!  Winners!!

There must be something about the Priory relay teams, because again, we won and finished 50m ahead of the rest of the field!  Stand out performances this time go to Catrina Thomas who was the highest point scorer in the team, with an impressive 25 points for her 800m race and a brilliant leg on the .  And Katie McMunn who scored a combined 41 points after an impressive performance in the 80m hurdles and a new personal best of 1m 50cm high jump.  Well done ladies!

An amazing day was had by all, the performances and behaviour of all the girls was truly legendary and I’m sure the icecream man made a killing out of the gorgeous sunny weather!  We look forward to seeing what effect the state of the art facilities of our academy next year can do to our achievements.
