Lincolnshire Cross Country

 Lincolnshire Schools Country Cross Championships

Saturday 21st January 2012

Fourteen of our students travelled to Spalding to represent Lincoln and Gainsborough in the above championships.  They all qualified for this event by finishing in the top 12 of the Lincoln Championships back in November.  The top 12 runners in each age group from each district were present, making the event a very competitive race.

The race was held at Gleed Boys School in Spalding.  Spalding being the flattest region in our county made for a very fast course, but then you had to factor in the gale force wind.  Suddenly the course was not so nice and every race became a tough battle.  At stake were places on the County team.  If you finish in the top 20 you will be considered for a place at the regional championships to be held in Ipswich in February.  If you finish in the top 8 you will be considered for a place at the English Schools Championships in March.  As soon as I know who has been selected I’ll send another report.

A huge well done to Abbie Donnelly who finished as County Champion!  She beat the girl in 2nd place by what seemed like a country mile.
