Year 7 Cricket v St Bedes
This evening saw the Year 7 Cricket Team travel to a very sunny and warm Scunthorpe for their North Lincolnshire Semi-Final against St Bedes Roman Catholic School. Still buzzing from their comprehensive Quarter-Final victory against Lincoln Minster, captain Holden won the toss and confidently elected to bat first on a flat track in ideal batting conditions.
Successful opening pair M.Clarke and T.Ho strode out to the crease with purpose but their early enthusiasm was short lived due to some indifferent running leading to Ho being run our for 0. T.Holm-Johansen unfortunately shortly followed with more kamikaze running from the LSST batsmen. A solid partnership between Clarke and J.Fixter recovered the early damage from the St Bedes fielders but when Clarke (14) and Fixter (12) were dismissed, LSST were looking at a low total. However some lower order boundary hitting from H.Roberts, J.Mansford and J.Holden ensured LSST crept up to a respectable total. Holden displaying power and pure brutality in his quick fire 14 not out including an enormous six back over the bowlers head. LSST set St Bedes 77 to win off their 16 overs - a challenging total but 20 runs or so short of coach Pearce's team target.
After the Minster victory, it was again down to the LSST bowlers to work their magic in order to ensure that the team progressed. Some excellent early tight bowling from Holden and Mansford ensured St Bedes quickly fell behind the rate. Once Holden got into his stride he produced some particularly savage deliveries which ripped through the St Bedes top order and left their run chase in tatters. With the top order back in the Pavillion, it was left to Mansford (2-0-4-2), Trimble (3-0-10-3), Hardy (2-0-4-1) and excellent run outs by Roberts and Mansford to support the superb Holden (3-0-7-4) in ensuring LSST secured a comfortable victory by 43 runs.
A comprehensive victory with contributions throughout the team. Well done to the boys who now march through to the North Lincolnshire Final with the winners due to the play the South Lincs winners in the 1st week of July.
