Students perform Shakespeare at Drill Hall
The Shakespeare Schools Festival is the biggest Drama festival in the UK and has been running now for over a decade. We take part in this celebrated festival for many reasons; to introduce the Year 11 Drama students to Shakespeare, to provide them with an opportunity to perform at a local professional theatre, to perform to lower school students and initiate their experience of Shakespeare in an half-an-hour performance. The students take part in workshops with directors from the National Theatre and are enriched by the opportunity this brings. They also experience the technical side of producing a play and rigorously undergo technical and dress rehearsals with the exciting pressure of show night.
We have performed at the festival three times with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night and, most recently, The Winter’s Tale.
