Year 8 Cricket v Robert Patterson

The Year 8 cricket team, finally with a full complement of 11 players, turned up at Robert Patterson on a bright and blustry summer afternoon full of optimism looking for their first league win after the game vs Lincoln Christs Hospital School Thursday last was washed out.

Captain Osama Rabbani won the toss and elected to bat, hardly surprising considering the fact that the boundary appeared to have been laid out for an Under 9s match! Rabbani himself and opening partner Jordan Bentley took the attack to the wayward Robert Patterson bowlers, and after 7 overs LSST were 63 for 0. Rabbani, looking to complete his 25 and thus retire, smacked a square drive straight to the fielder at point and he took the catch, dismissing Rabbani for 24 from 17 balls.

Bentley continued and despite a mix up with Elliott Lunn which saw the latter run out, LSST coasted to the end of their allotted 12 overs, finishing on 97 for 2, with Euan Kelly (9* from 7 balls) joining Bentley (23* from 31 balls) at the crease for the final 3 overs. 97 felt like it was going to be good enough to win, and when Thomas Ward dismissed Rob Pat opener Lilley for a duck it was always going to be a case of "when" and not "if" the victory was going to come.

Ward continued to bowl well, finishing with 3 wickets for 2 runs from his two overs, Rabbani also claiming two wickets along with Lunn to finish off any hope Robert Patterson may have had of staging a fightback.

Special mention must go to the LSST fielding with catches from Alex South and Jack Bond, but particular special mention must go to Elliott "Collingwood" Lunn, who once again proved what a fantastic fielder he is with a flying two-handed catch at backward point off Rabbani.

Well played to everyone and a victory at SSPP on Thursday should hopefully mean a league victory!
