Y11 Football Victory

The Year 11 football squad travelled to the refreshed and revamped Lincoln Castle Academy to play their second league game of the season. After a rousing 3-1 in the first game against local foes William Farr it was a perfect opportunity to cement their place at the top of the league. The game started with scrappy play from both teams but with LSST looking solid in a well marshalled defence by Admiral Divver, chances were always going to be created at the other end. The midfield struggled to link with Dring and Hallworth but LSST kept their patience and persevered with a free flowing style of football. The half-time whistle blew with a roar from the LCA players – the score was 0-0.

The second half saw the LSST players adopt a more direct approach with the attacking players looking to be more decisive in the final third. After 10 minutes of the second half a 4-3-3 formation was adopted and thankfully rewarded. Ndlovu received the ball in space on the right and picked out an inch perfect pass as if he were threading a piece of cotton through the eye of a needle. Higginson latched onto the 40 yard pass and buried his shot passed the on-rushing goalkeeper. LSST needed a solid 10 minutes to consolidate their lead but LCA fought back with some direct play of their own. With LSST defence a little sleepy it took a smart save from Oldham to keep LSST in the game and in the hunt for an all important second goal. The second goal thankfully came after a clever flick on by Freeman which resulted in Hallworth lashing the ball home from 15 yards.

The goal somewhat settled the LSST players and the game finished as a comfortable 2-0 victory. A difficult game for LSST but experience showed and a win was achieved.
