Y11 Netball County Champions
Lincolnshire County Schools Netball Tournament
Saturday 13th November 2010
The Priory Academy LSST year 11 Netball team played in the County Netball Tournament last Saturday. The twelve best teams from all around Lincolnshire had gained entry by winning their district championships. This meant that the standard of netball was extremely high from all participating teams. The tournament was split into two leagues of six teams, each team had five matches to play before semi and final places could be decided.
The five matches in the group stage were won very convincingly:
Priory
v QEGS Horncastle won 12 - 9
v Robert Manning won 15 - 4
v Will Robertson won 14 - 3
v Vale of Ancholme won 14 – 3
v Healing won 17 - 5
Winning all five matches gained us a place in the semi final, against the runners up from the other league; Caistor Grammar.
Again, the year 11 ladies took it in their stride demonstrating excellent awareness of each other, passing firmly and accurately to provide the shooters with ample opportunity to score. The defence was strong, making interception after interception to deny Caistor the chance to ever really get into the game.
And so, we were through to the final. Both teams in the final gain entry into the East Midlands Schools Netball Championships. You might think that the ladies would have eased up at this point, knowing that they had got through to regionals. Quite the opposite! The ladies were hungry for the title of ‘County Champions’ and only victory was going to be good enough! The game began was such intensity that a goal was scored at each end after every centre pass, however shortly before half time we broke the pattern putting a couple of goals past the fierce Stamford High defence. This appeared to pile the pressure onto the opposition and they crumbled! Final Score: 18-6 and Priory Academy LSST are County Champions!
Well done ladies! An excellent attitude and competitive spirit was demonstrated all day. Now we look forward to some very intense training in preparation for the regional finals held here at the Priory Academy LSST on January 22nd.
Many Thanks from Mrs Porter, Miss Tilley and Miss Wooldridge
