Going into our third year, Priory Ruskin Sixth Form is an exciting and vibrant place to study.  Based on Queensway Site until the completion of the new build in 2014, we have over 80 students on roll and offer 18 Level 3 courses along with GCSE re-sits in English and Maths.  All classes are taught by dedicated specialist staff.

The academic and disciplined ethos means we aspire to see a majority of students progress to university at the end of Year 13, including Oxbridge and Russell group universities where appropriate.

 

On Queensway students enjoy Common Rooms, dedicated ICT suites and are not short of rooms to study in during non teaching ‘study periods’ (which are monitored for attendance.)  The new build will, of course, provide state of the art facilities.

 

Our students benefit from having an Assistant Headteacher dedicated to Sixth Form issues, permanently based on Queensway, along with a non teaching assistant.  Personal support is provided in choosing AS courses in Year 11 and university courses in Year 12/13, along with careers and training.  Generic pastoral support and guidance is an integral part of our work as our students move into the adult world.

 

As well as academic progress, students will be able to broaden their life experiences in a number of ways: a range of sports, Duke of Edinburgh, work experience and the National Citizenship Service.  Some community work and/or extra-curricular activities are an important part of our ethos.  Students are encouraged to hold positions of responsibility and can become Senior Prefects and apply to be Head Boy/Girl in Year 13 and a Deputy in Year 12, as well as volunteering to help organise such events as the Year 12 formal dinner and mentoring younger students on Manthorpe Site.  A Sixth Form council and accompanying committee system is developing to encourage ‘student voice’ and a sense of citizenship in an increasingly complex world.
