Specialist Status

Engineering Specialism

The Priory City of Lincoln Academy was awarded Engineering Specialism in the summer of 2003. We gained this status as we proved we have continued links with Siemens Engineering, our main sponsor.
The Technology, Mathematics and Science Departments work closely with each other, offering opportunities for pupils to access a curriculum with an ‘engineering slant’. These can be exemplified by making the most of ongoing opportunities such as educational visits into engineering, guest speakers from industry, cross-curricular projects and relating the curriculum areas to specific aspects of Siemens (our sponsor) and their day-to-day business.
All curriculum areas try to have an ‘engineering slant’ in their lessons when the opportunity arises and the close links with Siemens allows teachers to use real-life examples from the gas turbine business – from sales, HR and law to design and manufacture.
The success of our Academy through its Engineering specialism can be shown by the unprecedented Engineering Technicians Award at Gold, Silver and Bronze levels. This is an award that is nationally recognised and has been developed by us to meet the needs of the Engineering Council’s framework.
We are proud of our Engineering specialism and we celebrate our status with annual ‘Body Engineering’ activities. Here all departments take the theme of engineering and relate it to aspects of cross-curricular enrichment within year groups.

Specialist Sports College

We aim to:
• raise attainment for all pupils, both in the specialist subjects and across the whole curriculum.
• extend curricular and extracurricular opportunities for all of our pupils.

In September 2008 we became a centre for sporting excellence within the county and are proud to be an Academy with a sport and health specialism.
The Priory City of Lincoln Academy is playing an active part in the Government's strategy to raise sporting and academic achievement. We have been able to extend not only our range of sports but also the sports qualifications. The Sports College has superb facilities and the strong and well-qualified PE Department is complemented by full and part-time sports specific coaches. Working closely with The Youth Sports Trust, we receive additional resources to support our work and benefit our pupils.
In addition we are the hub school for the City of Lincoln School Sports Partnership with a membership of 7 Secondary, 44 Primary and Special Schools and more than 14,000 students. Our staff and pupils are involved in supporting primary schools through providing a wide range of physical education activities and we work closely with other Secondary schools.
The Academy also continues to have excellent links with the local Community; each week more than 2,500 people use our Sports Centre, while our extremely successful Junior Learn to Swim Programme enables more than 500 local youngsters to receive high quality swimming lessons throughout the year.
