Technology

The Technology Department at The Priory Ruskin Academy has workshops for drawing, textiles, cooking, electronics, woodwork, metalwork, and computer-aided-design (CAD/CAM). Students are given safety tuition, and gain hands-on experience with using most of the machines. They learn common and new processes, for instance: making a printed circuit board for an electronic product, etching, designing with computers, problem solving.

The students practise common and proven design tools in the creation of their work folios and products. We aim to enrich the students’ skills in areas such as problem-solving, creativity, practical ability, working to deadlines, and multi-project management. Plus, the students get to make real working products for their major projects throughout the key stages.

KS3

During KS3 the students will experience design and making products using a range of materials. The projects are:

  • CAD CAM (To design and make a ‘life style’ product using the Laser CAM)
  • Food Technology (Y7 & Y8 Licence to Cook programe)
  •  Textiles (To design and make a Textiles product)
  • Resistant Materials (To design and make a mechanical toy, desk tidy and mobile phone flasher.)
  • Electronics (To design and make a door buzzer, moisture sensor and amplifier circuit)
