Low Mood and Depression

Difficult events and experiences can leave us in low spirits or cause depression.

It could be relationship problems, bereavement, sleep problems, chronic illness or pain.

Sometimes it is possible to feel down without there being an obvious reason.

  • Breathing Space have advisors on 0800 83 85 87 (Mon-Fri 6pm to 2am, 24 hours at the weekend).
  • NHS – Inform site has fillable self-help resources that can be helpful to understand your cycle of depression, how to plan enjoyable activities and how to problem solve difficult situations.
  • Get Your Mind Plan - Every Mind Matters - NHS - Answer 5 simple questions to get your personalised mental health action plan with tips and advice to help you be kind to your mind.
  • CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) Helpline: 0800 58 58 58 - works to prevent male suicide and offers support services for any man who is struggling or in crisis. The services are open 5pm–midnight daily and are free, anonymous and confidential.
  • Living Life to the Full offers free online courses to help you understand your feelings and their causes, build your confidence and find solutions to help you feel happier or calmer.

  • Samaritans are available on 116 123 for confidential, non-judgmental emotional support.
  • NHS 24 on 111
  • Shout - text 85258
